Fedstats: Too often state and local government managers lack comprehensive data to support an analysis of their plans. This site is an extremely useful source for gathering statistics and reports from more than 100, mostly federal, government agencies. It contains links to both data and the data collecting agencies. Click on Key Statistic next to an agency's name (they are listed alphabetically) to pull up links to other web pages containing relevant information. For many kinds of research this is an excellent place to begin.

Guide to State Statistical Abstracts: This bibliography from an appendix in the Statistical Abstract of the United States includes the most recent known statistical abstracts for individual states. For some states, a near equivalent has been listed in substitution for, or in addition to, a statistical abstract. All sources contain statistical tables on a variety of subjects for the state as a whole, its component parts, or both, some also are web sites which contain statistical data.

Statistical Abstract of the United States: The National Data Book contains a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the United States. Selected international data are also included. The Abstract is also a Guide to Sources of other data from the Census Bureau, other Federal agencies, and private organizations. This link provides the latest edition of the Statistical Abstract in PDF form with selected information also available in HTML and spreadsheet files.
